Doctoral Consortium
Research in responsible computing and AI can involve interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary work, which poses extra challenges to an already challenging doctoral career trajectory.
The Doctoral Consortium will take place on December 8th, 2026. Doctoral students in both computing and humanistic disciplines related to responsible computing, responsible AI, human-AI interaction, and policy who are admitted to the Doctoral Consortium will receive 1:1 and small-group mentorship from established responsible computing and AI faculty, opportunities for networking and establishing themselves as future voices in the area. We would also organize a career skill development session, such as developing one’s research program or lab. All consortium participants will also be expected to present their lightning talks during the main Summit event on December 8th as well as present at a poster session on December 7th during the main Summit event, and to participate in interactive visioning sessions during the main Summit event.
The Doctoral Consortium will take place in the Georgia Tech Historic Academy of Medicine Building as well as the Technology Square Research Building (TSRB). More details will be conveyed to selected participants.

Call For Participation
Doctoral students in responsible computing, responsible AI, human-centered AI, human-AI interaction, policy, and related areas are encouraged to apply using the Application Form. Your advisor will need to submit a 1-page reference letter to Cindy Kaiying Lin and Jesse Thomason.
Applications before November 1, 2026 will receive full consideration.
We encourage Doctoral students who are just before their thesis proposal defense or just after, as this is the period where additional mentorship can have a substantial impact.
We especially encourage Doctoral students who work not only in computing or STEM more broadly, but also in the humanistic fields such as Anthropology, Sociology, Science and Technology Studies, History, Media and Communication Studies, and English, whose thesis topics are relevant to responsible computing and AI. We are also extremely interested in receiving applications from Doctoral students in the metro Atlanta and wider Georgia region, as well as in neighboring states (e.g., Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee).
Other strong candidates are welcome and will be fully considered.
Applicants selected for participation in the Consortium will have only their lodging, registration, and meals during the Summit event covered (US only; sorry, our funds have restrictions).
